The National Alliance on Mental Illness is a self-help, non-profit, advocacy group for those with mental illnesses and their supporters. The alliance was founded in 1979 because of a lack of support for people experiencing brain disorders. NAMI operates 1,100 affiliates nationally. Our local group is one of 41 different affiliates in Illinois.
